James started walking, but Esther wasn't quick to follow him. Instead, she turned to say goodbye to Pearl. "Pearl,
Aunt Agnes wants to have a meal with me, and | can't say no to her. | have to go now."
Pearl looked like she wanted to say something but ended up sighing instead. "Alright, go ahead."

After Esther left, Hanzel breathed a sigh of relief.
"What's up? You seem really upset," Pearl asked.
Hanzel sighed again. "You don't know the half of it. I'm married, and she isn't. She's always looking to find faults
in me."
Pearl's lips twitched. "What did she do?"
"She started srumors about me. Then, Fifi argued withwhile Esther took pleasure in my troubles."
Pearl's lips twitched harder. "Maybe that's the only excitement she gets after so many hard years."
Hanzel looked like he might cry. "Why am | always the one who gets hurt?"
"Enough, stay here and look after your wife. | still have a lot of people to meet since I've cback."
Richard took Pearl's hand gently and said softly, "Your mom said she wants to see you." He was talking about
Saule.
