Chapter 859: Still holding his cigarette between two fingers, Eric pulled out his phone and made a call to Phillips.
"Mr. Flynn," said Phillips on the other end.
"Go to the hospital. Check something for me." "Understood, Mr. Flynn." After giving the instructions and ending the call, Eric lit another cigarette. Then another. And another.
The ashtray above the trash can was already full of the ones he'd just smoked. He stubbed out the last one with a firm press and watched the glow die beneath his fingers.

Finally, he picked up his phone again. This time, he dialed Hadley's number.
To his surprise, it connected. She hadn't blocked him.
"Hello?" Hadley picked up, just as the last ring nearly timed out.
"It's me," Eric answered.
Hadley held the phone to her ear, her brows drawing together. "I know. What do you want?" Eric didn't answer right away. Instead, he said, “I'm right outside your building. Cdown. I need to talk to you." What did he just say? Hadley paused for a moment. "If you've got something to say, just say it over the phone." Eric had expected that response. "Are you coming down, or should I cup? Do you think it's convenient forto cup?" Of course, it wasn't.
Hadley glanced over at Joy and reluctantly conceded, "Fine. I'll cdown." R34d th3 Or1g1n41 4t g4ln0v3ls"Alright. I'll wait." The call ended. Eric leaned back against the car door, feeling the urge to reach for another cigarette.
He opened the door and reached inside but stopped short. He was about to see Hadley, and she hated when he smoked. More importantly, Joy was with her.
Joy was still young. Her health wasn't the strongest. He couldn't risk filling the air with smoke.
Eric cursed under his breath, frustrated at himself for chain-smoking earlier. He grabbed a pack of gum, popped three pieces into his mouth, and started chewing like a machine.

A few minutes later, Hadley stepped out of the building.
Eric straightened up immediately. As his eyes locked on her his gazem burned with intensity. "Hadley."
Hadley frowned and avoided his gaze. "What do you want to say?"
"This isn't the best place to talk," Eric said while studying her face. "bet's go somewhere warmer where we can sit and talk." Why? Hadley looked up, puzzled.
But the look on his face left no room for argument.
